Another Great Auction
A late Victorian sterling silver cream jug of bulbous form, manufactured by Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings Shepherd. The vessel features a wide, flared pouring spout and a simple C-scroll handle. The body is decorated with a band of repousse and chased foliate and floral scrollwork above a gadrooned lower section. The interior of the jug is parcel-gilt. The item is fully hallmarked on the side of the body with a maker mark of CS over FS within a quatrefoil shield for Saunders and Shepherd, the lion passant standard mark for sterling silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, and the date letter U for the year 1894.
