Another Great Auction
A George V sterling silver four-trumpet epergne centerpiece, manufactured by William John Myatt and Co. The item features a tall central trumpet-shaped vase with a flared, wavy fluted rim, surrounded by three smaller conforming trumpet vases supported by slender curved arms. The entire assembly is mounted onto a weighted, circular spreading foot. The base of the epergne is struck with a full set of British hallmarks, including the maker mark W.J.M.&S for William John Myatt and Co, the lion passant indicating sterling silver (.925 purity), the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter m for the year 1911. The base also displays a stamped registration number Rd 605570 and a secondary mark reading C&Co. As is standard for tall table silver of this period, the base is weighted with a non-precious material for stability.
