Buyer's Premium:

A large-scale commemorative royal memorabilia plaque produced in anticipation of the coronation of King Edward VIII, which was scheduled for May 1937 but ultimately cancelled following his abdication in December 1936. The shield-shaped item features a central, silver-toned high-relief profile bust of the King facing left. The date 1937 is split vertically, with 37 positioned above the head and 19 below the neck. To the right, the inscription reads KING EDWARD VIII in raised block lettering. The background is finished in a textured, crinkle-effect red paint. The plaque is constructed from embossed thin-gauge metal foil secured to a stiff brown fibrous backing board. The reverse reveals the incised underside of the metal foil and is fitted with a wire hanger. A red and white paper label is affixed to the reverse, featuring a stylized Union Jack graphic and the text ALL BRITISH GUARANTEED. This design is frequently attributed to Metalcraft.
Length: Approximately 42 cm (16.5 inches).
