A pair of British Second World War civilian gas masks complete with their original cardboard transit boxes. The first item is a child’s C type respirator, popularly known as the Mickey Mouse mask, featuring a red rubber facepiece with circular glass eyepieces and blue elasticated head straps. The filter assembly is finished in blue paint with a green-painted perforated metal face. A red rubber tab on the head harness is embossed with LOT 23. It is housed in its original brown cardboard box which features a large printed government warning regarding its status as government property. The second item is a standard adult civilian respirator comprising a black rubber facepiece with a single large transparent eyepiece and a black metal filter unit with a green-painted perforated cover. The rubber facepiece is stamped in yellow with AVON 8-38 and 2668, indicating manufacture by Avon in August 1938. This mask is accompanied by its original cardboard carrying box, which includes printed instructions on the inside lid. The side of the box bears a contemporary handwritten address in ink for a Mrs M Bowman of Barnsley, Yorkshire. These historical items were manufactured with filters that may contain asbestos; they are sold as collectible memorabilia for display only and should never be worn or used.
