An Indonesian folding mancala board, locally known as a congkak or dakon, carved from wood in the stylised form of a turtle. The piece is characteristic of Javanese decorative arts, featuring hand-painted and wood-burned batik motifs across the exterior shell and interior surfaces. These motifs include the parang pattern, a diagonal design traditionally symbolising power and authority, alongside various geometric and floral nitik patterns. The board is constructed in two hinged sections that open to reveal sixteen pits: fourteen smaller playing wells and two larger home pits at either end. The hinges are made of brass.
15 x 8.5 inches.
