A large-scale framed chromolithograph print titled The Colours of the British Army. This educational chart illustrates the various Queen’s and Regimental Colours across the British Army. The upper rows depict the standards and guidons of the Household Cavalry and the colours of the Foot Guards. The main body consists of a detailed grid showing infantry colours, each featuring regimental badges, the Union flag in the canton, and scrolls detailing battle honours. Honours represented include the Napoleonic Wars (Peninsula, Waterloo), the Crimean War (Alma, Sevastopol), and late 19th-century engagements such as Afghanistan 1878-80 and South Africa 1879. The nomenclature used, such as The Prince of Wales’s Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) and the South Wales Borderers, identifies the print as post-dating the Childers Reforms of 1881. The lower sections display smaller illustrations of badges and standards for various cavalry units including the Hussars, Lancers, and Dragoons. The item is presented in a modern glazed dark-stained wooden frame with a wide chocolate-brown mount.
Frame size approximately 80cm x 60cm.
