This comprehensive collection belonged to Captain James Tyson Norburn of the Royal Engineers, service number P/327884. The uniform group comprises a four-pocket wool Service Dress tunic, a double-breasted heavy drab wool greatcoat, and matching service dress trousers. The tunic features brass Royal Engineers buttons by Pitt & Co London, bronze flaming grenade collar badges, and rank insignia for a Captain on the shoulder boards. It is fitted with formation signs for the British 2nd Army, consisting of red and black patches with a golden lion, and a ribbon bar representing the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, and War Medal 1939-1945. The greatcoat retains its brass Royal Engineers buttons and Captain rank pips. The lot includes a group of transit luggage items: a large khaki canvas valise with leather handles stencilled LT J T NORBURN; a heavy burlap shipping sack stencilled with Norburn’s name, service number, and residential address in Barlborough near Chesterfield, marked WANTED ON VOYAGE; a khaki canvas duffel bag stencilled LIEUT J. T. NORBURN R.E. P/327884; and a small white canvas bag stencilled 9660 NORBURN J.T. Accompanied by a printed archival group photograph from the Nottinghamshire Archives, identifying Norburn as a member of the 140th Officer Cadet Training Unit (OCTU), Royal Engineers, dated 01/08/1944.
