A set of industrial bench balance scales manufactured by H. Pooley and Son. The frame is constructed from cast iron with a silver-coloured painted finish, featuring a flat rectangular platform on one side and a circular dished copper pan on the other. A curved brass identification plate is fixed to the right-hand pillar, embossed with the text H. POOLEY and SON, B.R.(W.), 854, and CONTRACTORS. This indicates the scales were manufactured for or used by the British Railways Western Region. The scales are accompanied by a collection of weights contained within two aged cardboard boxes. These include circular black-finished cast iron nesting weights, one marked 8 OZ, and several smaller grey metal weights.
