A collection of mid-20th-century mathematical and geographical instruments of British and German manufacture. The group features an A.W. Faber-Castell System Rietz model 1/98 slide rule, constructed with a white celluloid face on a wooden base and marked Made in Germany. This is accompanied by a softcover instruction manual titled Instructions for the use of A.W. Faber Castell Precision Calculating Rules, bearing the London Agency address of 13/14 Camomile Street, E.C.3, and two green textured protective cases.
The collection includes a large boxwood or mahogany geographical scale rule engraved for the University of Bristol Geography Dept and manufactured by Cooke, Troughton & Simms Ltd of London, York, and Cape Town. This rule features various scales, including one marked 1/20,000 metres. Also present is a British-made The Unique slide rule and a traditional boxwood folding rule with brass hinges.
Drafting supplies consist of three original cardboard boxes for Winsor & Newton drawing inks, marked Made in England, for the colours Cobalt, Canary Yellow, and Vermilion. The lot is completed by a novelty cloth figure with a purple fleece body and floral-patterned limbs mounted on a wooden handle.
