A GPO No. 232 Pyramid rotary dial desk telephone. The cabinet and handset are constructed from black Bakelite. The device features a chrome-finished rotary dial with black numerals on a white background and a central paper dial card. It is fitted with brown braided fabric cords for both the handset and the line connection. The side of the main body is marked with a gold-coloured stamp reading TELEPHONE No 232 F. The handset cradle features the incised text REGD DESIGN No 754536. The dial card includes the instructions IN CASE OF EMERGENCY DIAL 0 and FOR OTHER INFORMATION SEE TELEPHONE DIRECTORY. This model was a standard UK desk telephone from the late 1920s through the 1940s.
