A collection of silver-coloured commemorative medals from the Man in Flight series, produced as a promotional set by Shell Oil. The medals are struck in a silver-toned base metal and are mounted on the original dark blue printed display card. The obverse of each medal features relief designs documenting milestones in aviation and space exploration history. Visible inscriptions on the medals include Wilbur and Orville Wright, Graf Zeppelin, Sputnik 1, Leonardo da Vinci, and Charles Lindbergh. The display card includes printed chronological descriptions for each event, including Sikorsky VS-300, 1939 and Apollo 11, 1969. The lower section of the card features a full-colour photograph of an astronaut on the lunar surface. These sets were widely distributed in the United Kingdom during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
