A collection of decorative eggs featuring a variety of materials and traditional motifs. The group includes several examples of hand-painted lacquer over wood or composite bases, decorated with polychrome floral sprays, butterflies, and birds, including a kingfisher. Some examples are finished with gilt-heightened detailing in a folk-art style. The collection also contains eggs carved from translucent hardstone, with one example featuring painted floral and avian decoration. The items are housed in a dark-patinated wrought-metal basket designed with a twisted faux-wicker handle and a scrollwork frame adorned with applied grape clusters and vine leaves. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or signatures are visible on any of the pieces. The collection is of 20th-century manufacture.
