A vintage novelty powder compact by Pygmalion, England, designed in the form of a grand piano. The gold-toned metal case features engine-turned geometric patterns to the lid and base, enclosed by foliate scrollwork borders. The sides of the body are decorated with corresponding scrollwork. The lid is set with a vacant rectangular cartouche. The underside is fitted with three folding legs and a decorative lyre-shaped pedal support. The hinged lid opens to reveal a fitted mirror and a cream fabric-lined interior compartment. The interior lining bears the name Sonata in cursive script. Accompanied by a black fabric protective pouch.
