Estimated price: £20 - £40

Buyer's Premium:

A circular silver-plated butter dish stand or pierced insert featuring an Art Deco geometric design. The upper surface is pierced with a central starburst motif surrounded by concentric radial groups of three parallel slots. The piece is fitted with two flat, rectangular flange handles. The item bears several marks indicating its manufacture by the Chester Electro Plate Co. On the pierced top surface is the stamp C E P C o followed by a small circular mark containing a stylized symbol, alongside a faint stamped mark of a heraldic lion rampant under a crown. The underside of one handle is stamped with four separate marks: an oval containing E P, a rectangular mark for CHESTER, a rectangular mark for E P C O, and a shield-shaped mark containing a stylized symbol. The design number 4730 is stamped below these marks. This type of pierced stand was commonly used as an insert for butter dishes to allow for drainage or to sit above ice. Similar examples are documented as having been produced for maritime use, including for the Cunard White Star Line.
