This telescopic fireplace fender is constructed from brass with iron or steel backplates. The design features an adjustable front rail allowing for variable hearth widths. The structure includes six vertical supports, each topped with a spherical ball finial. The front corner plinths are decorated with recessed, cast panels depicting a stylised fleur-de-lis or foliate motif. The side returns are fitted with black-finished metal backplates intended for placement against a chimney breast. No maker marks are present on the exterior surfaces. Two small adhesive labels with handwritten numerals 1182 and 1184 are located on the front rail.
