A silver-plated lidded jug manufactured by Mappin and Webb Ltd for the Blue Funnel Line (Ocean Steam Ship Company). The vessel features a tapering cylindrical body with a simple loop handle and a hinged lid with a projecting thumbpiece. The side of the body is engraved with the house flag of the Blue Funnel Line, depicting a rectangular flag with a central diamond containing the letter A, positioned above a decorative scroll inscribed BLUE FUNNEL LINE. The base is struck with the maker mark MAPPIN & WEBB LTD, the pattern number W29538, a capacity mark 1/2 PINT, and the characters 5 HB. Additional markings include a small diamond-shaped stamp to the left of the maker name and a shield-shaped stamp containing the Roman numeral I to the right.
