A 38 piece fine bone china tea service produced by Hudson and Middleton Ltd under the Sutherland China name in Hanley, Staffordshire. The service is decorated in a traditional Imari palette featuring cobalt blue panels, rust-red floral motifs, and green foliage, all accented with gilt highlights. The set comprises teacups with loop handles and footed bases, saucers with scalloped rims, a circular cake or sandwich plate, a milk jug with a pinched spout, and an open sugar bowl. Each piece is finished with a scalloped and gilded edge. The base of the items bears a red transfer-printed mark consisting of a crown above a circular border with a scalloped edge, containing a symbol of a hand emerging from a cuff. The mark is inscribed SUTHERLAND – HANLEY with the word ENGLAND positioned to the side.
