A substantial collection of shellac 78 rpm gramophone records dating from the mid-20th century. The assortment includes a variety of artists and record labels. Notable items identified include a Frank Sinatra recording of Tell Her You Love Her (Parker-Denison-Halliday) with orchestra conducted by Nelson Riddle on a purple Capitol label, catalogue number CL. 14819, manufactured by Electric and Musical Industries Limited in Great Britain and dated 1957. Also present is a record on The Twin Record label, manufactured by the British Zonophone Company Limited, England, and several records bearing Columbia labels. A significant portion of the collection is housed in original paper retailer sleeves from J.G. Windows, Newcastle’s Music Centre, with addresses at 6, 7 and 8 Central Arcade, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and 13 Horse Market, Darlington. These sleeves feature period advertising for Eavestaff and John Crowley pianos and Decca portable gramophones, indicating a strong provenance from the North East of England. The collection is contained within a grey plastic storage tub with a lid.
