A two-piece ceramic jardinière and pedestal set produced for the British retailer Marks & Spencer under the St Michael brand. The set is decorated in the Claremont pattern, featuring transfer-printed floral sprays of pink and coral blossoms with green foliage against a cream-coloured glazed earthenware ground. The jardinière features a flared, scalloped rim and a rounded body with moulded handles. The accompanying pedestal is of columnar form with a tiered capital and base, mirroring the floral decoration. The base of the jardinière bears the St Michael backstamp within a rectangular frame, the pattern name CLAREMONT, MADE IN ENGLAND, and the reference numbers 2185/8071. A stamped number 19 is also present.
