A Hornby O gauge No. 501 passenger set manufactured by Meccano Ltd in Liverpool, England. The set is constructed from lithographed tinplate and features a clockwork-driven mechanism. The set includes a 0-4-0 tank locomotive finished in London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) maroon livery, numbered 2270, accompanied by three matching LMS passenger coaches marked for third-class travel. Also included is a bundle of tinplate track comprising curved and straight sections and a metal winding key. The locomotive is marked LMS 2270 to the sides, and the coaches bear LMS and 3 markings. The original illustrated cardboard box is present, featuring a lithographed image of an LNER locomotive on the lid and printed manufacturer details including Meccano Product and Made in England by Meccano Ltd. Liverpool. Internal cardboard dividers are included.
