A pair of portrait bust bookends depicting the British Poet Laureate Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The busts show the poet in later life with a full beard and receding hairline, dressed in a collared coat. The pieces are manufactured from a cast composite material with a cream-coloured faux-ivory finish applied to the busts and a dark-painted finish to the curved backrests and bases. Each bookend features the name TENNYSON incised in capital letters on the side of the base. No specific factory or maker marks are visible. A small adhesive paper label with the numbers 1009 is present on the base of one item. These items are consistent with British commemorative or decorative ware from the mid-20th century.
