A large silver brooch designed in the form of a naturalistic fern frond. The piece features a curved central stem supporting multiple rows of detailed, textured pinnae. The reverse of the brooch is fitted with a long horizontal pin and a simple hook-style clasp. For additional security, it is equipped with a safety chain that terminates in a secondary safety pin. A rectangular mark is visible on the reverse of the stem near the base, though the characters within are not clearly legible. This motif is commonly associated with Victorian botanical jewellery and is also the national emblem of New Zealand.
