A William Adams ceramic oval dish decorated in the Chinese Bird pattern. The interior features a central Chinoiserie scene depicting a bird amongst flowers, set within an oval Greek key border. The surrounding area is decorated with a dense blue and white pebble ground, finished with a geometric border to the rim. The piece is of deep oval form with two integrated handles. The base displays a blue printed backstamp stating: This Pattern was introduced by William Adams in 1780 being a copy of a Chinese pattern & one of the first of its style produced in English pottery. The mark includes the registration number R. No. 623294 and is signed Wm Adams ENGLAND.
