This folk art embroidered textile, identified as a “Tableau de Famille” (Family Picture/Record), is executed in cross-stitch on a cream-colored linen or cotton ground using multi-colored wool or silk threads. The central French text details birth information for Amand Lambert, born January 6, 1863, in Willerzie, and Marie Henrard, born May 7, 1862, also in Willerzie. Their children’s birth dates are also recorded: Maria, born June 19, 1888; Esther, born June 18, 1890; and Léa, born July 11, 1901. The composition features floral motifs flanking the central text, a vibrant central bird motif, and a decorative border of stylized floral elements in red, green, and gold tones, accented by a continuous red circular pattern.
