A group of nineteenth-century wooden boxes comprising a mahogany? example and a decorative parquetry specimen. The first box is constructed from mahogany? with a plain rectangular form and brass hinges, featuring an unlined interior and evidence of a removed lock mechanism. The second box is finished in a walnut? or fruitwood? veneer, decorated with geometric parquetry banding to the borders and a central diamond marquetry motif to the lid and front. The interior is lined with a star-patterned paper. Both items exhibit traditional joinery techniques consistent with mid-to-late nineteenth-century production.
